Tura, Oct 3: Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Tuesday launched the 3-day Megha Start-up Expo 2023 at NEHU’s Tura campus.
The event has been organized by BIRAC’s BioNEST Bio-incubator facility, NEHU in collaboration with PRIME Startup Meghalaya, and BRTC KIIT – TBI, Odisha.
Speaking on the occasion, the Education Minister lauded the BioNEST Facility at NEHU for their farsighted vision to organize such programme that can benefit not just the students but also support the budding and established entrepreneurs who will also shape the future of the state.
“Meghalaya have the potential, with all the resources it has but we need a visionary who can discover such potential,” he said.
He further identified the youth as the most precious asset of the State, as they have the vision and ideas to redefine the horizons of Meghalaya.
Later, Sangma visited all the 75 stalls to encourage the entrepreneurs and get to know their businesses, and the support and opportunities the government can provided them.
Others who spoke in the programme included Dr B.K. Sarma, GM & Head, Technical Department, BIRAC, New Delhi, Prof. P. S Shukla, Vice Chancellor, NEHU, Meghalaya, Aditya Sen, Program Head, PRIME Start-up Hub, Meghalaya.
Overall, 75 ventures have put up stalls for exhibition of their products and services. These stalls have been categorised under 4 pavilions for easier product/services classification and navigation: Agripreneurship – Agribusiness, AgriTech Ventures; Pavilion New Foot Falling; Pavilion Food & Beverage Point, and Pavilion Stay Up & Explore,

About BIRAC’S BioNEST Bio-Incubator (B3I) facility, NEHU
BIRAC’s BioNEST Bio-Incubator (B3I) Facility at NEHU is a holistic bio-incubation facility established in NEHU, Tura Campus in 2021 and now outspreading to NEHU Shillong. The main objective of this Bio-incubation Facility is to identify, nurture and empower ignited minds in cultivating new ideas and developing innovative solutions especially in the field of Agriculture, Food processing, Nutrition, Biotechnology, and other life sciences to address the unmet needs of society. To facilitate the process, B3I Facility has designed an all-inclusive handholding program including infrastructural, mentoring, and funding support throughout the entrepreneurship journey via the stages of ideation, prototype development, scaling up, and commercialization for setting up a sustainable and profitable business utilizing the natural indigenous resources of North-Eastern India. B3I Facility also offers skill development programs and hands-on training for rural entrepreneurs to inculcate a broad entrepreneurial mindset in them.
About PRIME Startup Hub, MEGHALAYA
The Promotion and Incubation of Market-Driven Enterprises (PRIME) program seeks to create and promote a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem in the state. Aspiring entrepreneurs, start-ups, and early-stage enterprises are nurtured and supported to translate their innovative ideas into business and sustain them in the long run by fostering effective networking opportunities. PRIME follows a collaborative approach between the state government, its different departments, and private organizations to facilitate individual strengths.
PRIME Startup Hubs are funded by Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA) and are implemented by Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship (MIE) with the support of knowledge partner IIM Calcutta Innovation Park (IIMCIP).
The PRIME program, initiated by the Government of Meghalaya, is working towards implementing the initiatives outlined in the Meghalaya Startup Policy. PRIME aims to make entrepreneurship a preferred career choice for the youth of the State through the creation of a dynamic and collaborative ecosystem that enables easy availability of credit, relevant technology, skilling and mentoring support and access to high leverage markets.
Through PRIME, systematic and targeted support is being provided to aspiring entrepreneurs through a network of PRIME Hubs that will be the one-stop shop for the different segments of entrepreneurs in the State.
