Mumbai, June 9: In a state better known for its mountains, music and footballers, two young women from South Garo Hills have quietly scripted a different kind of success story.
On a glittering stage at Film City in Mumbai, Beauty N. Sangma and Nurmia M. Marak walked away with two of the biggest titles at the 2nd Glamorous India International 2026 pageant, bringing national recognition to a district that rarely finds itself in the spotlight of India’s fashion and pageantry industry.
Beauty N. Sangma of Jadi Nangalbibra was crowned Miss Glamorous India International 2026, while Nurmia M. Marak of Gasuapara won the Miss Teen Grand title, completing a remarkable double victory for Meghalaya.
For Beauty, the crown represented more than a pageant win.
The eldest among four siblings, she carried a piece of home onto the national stage. During the grand finale, she chose to represent Garo heritage through a handcrafted Dakmanda paired with traditional Rigitok ornaments, drawing attention not only to her own journey but also to the culture and craftsmanship of her community.
If Beauty’s victory was the culmination of years of determination, Nurmia’s win reflected a young contestant steadily building momentum. Before her national triumph, she had already earned recognition through titles such as Fashion Icon at Miss Northeast Spark 2024 and Brand Ambassador at Miss Glamorous Northeast, establishing herself as one of the emerging faces of Northeast India’s pageant circuit.

Competing against contestants from across the country in traditional and western wear rounds, both women impressed judges with their confidence, stage presence and cultural representation.
Their success also reflects a growing trend that observers of the pageant industry have increasingly noticed in recent years: contestants from Northeast India are no longer participating merely as regional representatives. They are increasingly emerging as national winners, bringing with them distinctive identities, strong cultural narratives and remarkable stage confidence.
For South Garo Hills, the achievement carries a significance beyond crowns and titles.
In a district where opportunities in fashion and entertainment remain limited, the victories of Beauty and Nurmia offer a powerful message to young people — that talent from even the most remote corners of the Northeast can command attention on national platforms.
The journey may not end in Mumbai.
As winners of Glamorous India International, both now earn the opportunity to advance to the international round in Dubai, where they could represent India on a global stage.
For now, however, Meghalaya has reason to celebrate.
Two young women travelled from the hills of South Garo Hills to one of the country’s biggest stages — and returned home with the crowns.
