Gaurav Gogoi slams Assam Govt’s eviction drive, alleges diversion from corruption scandals

Must read

Guwahati, July 12: Assam MP and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Gaurav Gogoi has come down heavily on the Assam government over its ongoing eviction drive, alleging that the move is a deliberate attempt to divert public attention from alleged corruption involving families of ruling party leaders.

Speaking to the media in Guwahati on Saturday, Gogoi said, “They are trying to divert attention from their misgovernance and corruption. The Congress has exposed details of properties allegedly grabbed by the families of those in power — be it the Geel cow scam or the land encroachment issue. These eviction drives are just a distraction tactic.”

Gogoi also highlighted the Congress party’s ongoing national outreach efforts, led by senior leaders.

“Our Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge ji and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi ji are currently touring various states to connect with people and party workers. They’ve already visited Odisha and Telangana. Assam is also on the list — we expect both leaders to visit the state on July 16,” he said.

When asked about the party’s formal stance on the eviction issue, Gogoi said, “I will defer to our Press Chairman Jairam Ramesh ji, who will make the party’s official position clear.”
