Guwahati, July 12: The Assam Regional Office of NABARD celebrated its 44th Foundation Day on Saturday by honouring grassroots heroes who have made a significant impact on rural development.
Among those felicitated were Padma Shri awardee Sarbeswar Basumatary, renowned seed keeper Mohan Chandra Bora and black rice pioneer and Assam Gaurav awardee Upendra Rabha.

The event was held at the NABARD office in Guwahati and attended by Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, senior officials, bankers, and development stakeholders.
NABARD also recognised top-performing Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) for their efforts in strengthening the rural economy.
A special booklet titled “Sahakar-se-Samriddhi – Prospering Together: Tales of Assam” was released, showcasing success stories of 14 PACS. A digital flipbook on the ‘Ek Ped Maa ke Naam’ plantation campaign was also launched.
Speaking at the event, NABARD Assam GM Qamar Javed said, “Our mission is to build strong rural communities through infrastructure, credit support, and grassroots empowerment.”
The celebration reaffirmed NABARD’s commitment to its core mission: “Taking Rural India Forward” and its unwavering dedication to transforming the lives of millions through inclusive and sustainable development.
