Aizawl, July 12: In a major crackdown on narcotics, Assam Rifles seized methamphetamine tablets and heroin worth over ₹113.36 crore and recovered 7,000 detonators during multiple operations in Mizoram on Saturday.
Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the seizures.
A defence spokesperson said that acting on specific intelligence regarding drug movement in the Zokhawthar area, an Area Domination Patrol (ADP) team of Assam Rifles spotted two individuals carrying white rucksacks. On seeing the troops, the suspects jumped into a river and escaped across the India-Myanmar border.
The paramilitary personnel recovered 33 packets containing 3,33,300 methamphetamine tablets, weighing 37.476 kg.
In a separate operation, Assam Rifles intercepted two persons riding a Chinese Kenbo bike. A search led to the recovery of 11 soap cases containing 128 grams of heroin, valued at ₹96 lakh.
In a third operation conducted jointly with Mizoram Police in the Chanmari area of Aizawl district, 7,000 detonators were recovered from a house belonging to a local individual.
The recovered drugs, detonators, and the three arrested suspects have been handed over to the police.
