Govt should approach Governor on ILP, says KHADC member

Must read

Shillong, Dec 7: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council Independent MDC of Nongthymmai Latiplang Kharkongor said that the state government should approach the Governor Satya Pal Malik who is a representative of the Center rather than frequenting Delhi to track the demand for Inner Line Permit (ILP) implementation in the state.

An irked Kharkongor said that the journey to Delhi by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and his Ministers has been an unsuccessful one and remarked that the MDA led by the CM can hold a sit-in demonstration in front of the Governor’s House to press for the implementation of ILP in the state.

“They could have approached the Governor here in the state who is a representative of the Center and in doing so, he can relay the message of the state government to the Center”, he said. He pointed out that the ILP demand will be materialized if the government is aggressive to pursue it.

Kharkongor went on to say that the MDA government should call for an indefinite but peaceful protest such as “stay at home” or “All vehicles at home” in the days to come.

He said that the Center apparently does not honour the “unanimous official government resolution” passed by the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on the implementation of ILP in the state.
