Govt to reconstruct Meghalaya House in Vellore to increase capacity

Must read

Shillong, Sept 12: Minister in-charge of General Administration Department (GAD), Rakkam A Sangma, on Friday informed the Assembly that the government has initiated steps to reconstruct the Meghalaya House in Vellore to address the shortage of accommodation.

Replying in the House, Sangma said the existing Meghalaya House in Vellore comprises seven apartments with a total of 18 rooms. However, the limited capacity has resulted in patients being denied accommodation.

He informed that during 2024–2025 alone, 112 out of 208 patients registered were turned away due to non-availability of rooms.

To address this recurring problem, the government has decided to reconstruct a new Meghalaya House in Vellore with increased capacity. Sangma said the project aims to ensure that patients and their attendants from Meghalaya seeking medical treatment in Vellore will have access to adequate facilities.
