Health at their doorstep: Free specialty services reach over 400 patients in Kohima

Kohima, June 29: More than 400 people received free consultations, diagnostic tests and treatment at a multi-specialty health camp held in Lerie Colony, Kohima, as part of a one-day medical outreach aimed at making specialist healthcare more accessible to the community.

The camp, organised under the initiative of Kohima Town MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo (Ato) Rhütso, offered a range of free services, including General Medicine, Dentistry, ENT consultations, minor surgical procedures and the distribution of free medicines.

During the camp, which began at 10 am, Dr. Tseilhoutuo (Ato) conducted more than 100 ultrasound examinations. The Family Planning Association of India (FPAI) also carried out AI-based lung screening and cervical cancer screening, adding a strong preventive healthcare component to the outreach.

Medical teams also visited bedridden patients at their homes, ensuring they too received essential healthcare services.

According to Dr. Tseilhoutuo, the initiative was aimed at bringing quality healthcare closer to people who often find specialist treatment and diagnostic services difficult or expensive to access.

“Good health is the key to a strong society. Through such outreach programmes, we want to ensure that quality healthcare reaches those who need it most,” Dr. Ato said.

Residents welcomed the initiative, saying it gave them access to specialist consultations, treatment and diagnostic facilities that would otherwise have been difficult to obtain.

Beyond treatment, the camp highlighted the growing importance of community-based healthcare initiatives that promote early diagnosis, preventive care and improved access to specialised medical services.
