Tura, Oct 17: Meghalaya police on Saturday afternoon recovered the body of a 17-year old, who has been allegedly murdered by her husband. The body was recovered from a stream from a village near Hallidayganj in West Garo Hills.

The minor was married to one Musibur Rehman, 23, a resident of Fekamari under Mankachar police station in South Salmara district of Assam. However, as told by the victim’s father they were living separately for the past few months and Rehman had come to meet the girl two days ago at his in-laws house in Hallidayganj and later they had disappeared.

Locals say that the parents became worried after they were unable to contact their daughter over the past two days. This led them to suspect that something had gone wrong and a police complaint filed at Hallidayganj.

An FIR filed by the victim’s father had allegedly blamed the husband, which made the police suspect Rehman’s involvement. On questioning by the police, he led police to the spot, where the body was dumped.

“The OC of Hallidayganj led the investigation and it was his prompt action that led to the case being cracked. The accused has been arrested and investigation into what led to the crime is currently underway,” said superintendent of police, West Garo Hills, Dr Raghuvendra Kumar.

An FIR for murder has been registered against the accused at the Hallidayganj PS.
