IMD Predicts Wet Spell Across 7 Northeast States Over Next 5 Days

Guwahati, April 29: The Northeastern states are bracing for widespread rainfall and thunderstorm activity over the next five days, according to the latest weather forecast issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati. The forecast, which covers the period from April 29 to May 3, 2024, predicts light to moderate rain at most places across the region, with the likelihood of heavy to extremely heavy downpours at isolated locations.

According to the forecast, cyclonic circulation persists over Northeast Assam and its neighbourhood between 1.5 and 3.1 km above mean sea level. A trough also runs from North Bihar to Manipur across Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and South Assam at 0.9 km above mean sea level. This trough has merged with another cyclonic circulation over North Bangladesh and its neighbourhood.

Day 1 (29th April 2024):
Light to moderate rain is very likely at most places over Arunachal Pradesh, at many places over Assam and Meghalaya, and at a few places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Hot and humid weather conditions are expected to continue over Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura. Thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh, with heavy rain likely at isolated places in the state.

Day 2 (30th April 2024):
Light to moderate rain is very likely at most places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya, and at many places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Hot and humid weather conditions are expected to continue over Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura. Thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh. Heavy to very heavy rain is very likely at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya, while heavy rain is likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Tripura.

Day 4 (2nd May 2024):
Light to moderate rain is very likely at most places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely at isolated places over Mizoram and Tripura, while thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph are likely at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur. Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh, with heavy rain likely at isolated places over Mizoram and Tripura.

Day 5 (3rd May 2024):
Light to moderate rain is very likely at most places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, and at many places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya. Thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh. Heavy to very heavy rain, with extremely heavy falls, is very likely at isolated places over Meghalaya. Heavy to very heavy rain is also likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Mizoram, and Tripura, while heavy rain is expected at isolated places over Nagaland and Manipur.

The Regional Meteorological Centre has advised the public to stay updated with the latest weather information and take necessary precautions during the predicted rain and thunderstorm activity.
