Shillong, Oct 4: Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari on Monday stressed that increasing the connectivity and progress of the region is a priority for the government of India and assured all help to fulfill this commitment.
Participating in the foundation stone laying ceremony for the improvement cum widening of the NH 40 between Shillong and Dawki here in Shillong by Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Gadkari sent a recorded video message to express his support for the progress of State and the region.
In the message, he said be it Meghalaya, Assam, Nagaland or Tripura, the government of India is particularly focused about their development. And in the coming time, along with road infrastructure, railway and aviation infrastructure will also come up.
On the Shillong – Dawki road, the Union Minister said the road is very important from the perspective of boosting connectivity between India and Bangladesh. “Its widening will enable more travel and transport, and encourage more trade between India and Bangladesh,” he said.
He also remarked that Meghalaya is a progressive state and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has discussed a lot about ways to develop the hilly state with him. “I assure that we will give all necessary support for the process of the state,” Gadkari said.
He also informed that there are few proposals for roads and bridges in the state that his department is currently examining.
