Boko, Aug 10: In a rare on-foot inspection of the inaccessible Assam–Meghalaya border, Kamrup Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dev Kumar Mishra on Sunday visited Nam-Tarabari and Upper Tarabari—two remote villages at the heart of a decades-old boundary dispute—signalling renewed momentum in the inter-state talks.

The visit formed part of a joint survey by Assam and Meghalaya officials aimed at mapping disputed stretches and incorporating local concerns into the resolution process. “These villages are so remote that even vehicles cannot reach them—we had to trek on foot,” Mishra told reporters, adding that the team interacted extensively with residents to understand their grievances.

Though geographically within Assam, Nam-Tarabari and Upper Tarabari have long been claimed by groups in Meghalaya, with jurisdictional ambiguity fuelling tensions over governance and resource access.

Mishra was accompanied by Additional DC Garg Mohan Das, Additional SP Kalyan Pathak, DFO Kamrup West Subodh Talukdar, PWD Engineer Manik Dutta, and other officials. On his way back, the DC also inspected the under-construction Bako–Chaygaon Sub-Divisional Commissioner’s office, scheduled for inauguration on August 12.
