Kejriwal to continue discharge Chief Ministerial duties from jail : AAP

Must read

Shillong, March 22: Following the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the alleged liquor policy scam on Thursday night, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has stated that Kejriwal will continue running the government as chief minister from jail if needed.

AAP leaders in Delhi have also called for nationwide protests outside BJP offices on Friday. All office-bearers, ministers, and councillors of the AAP have been summoned to the main office at 10 am.

Delhi Police have closed all roads leading to the AAP headquarters, allowing only pedestrians and no cars. Water cannons and paramilitary forces have been deployed on the DDU road, which leads to the BJP headquarters. The ITO Metro station will remain closed from 8 am to 6 pm today on the advice of Delhi Police.

This marks the first time a sitting Chief Minister has been arrested by the central government.

An ED team arrived at CM Kejriwal’s home last evening with a search warrant after he skipped nine summonses by the central agency. Later in the day, the Delhi High Court refused to grant him protection from arrest.

His arrest, just a month ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, has sparked widespread anger among thousands of party workers and condemnation from the Opposition camp. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will visit Kejriwal’s family later today.
