Shillong, Jan 14: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Narpuh Unit, called upon the Minister in-charge of C&RD Hamletson Dohling on Friday and submitted a memorandum for creation of a new C&RD Block at Lumshnong.
Narpuh consists of approximately 55 villages and has a population of more than 45,000.
Speaking to reporters, KSU Narpuh Unit president said the demand for creation of a new C&RD is to serve the interest of the public at large in the area.
“The villages under Narpuh area fall under Khliehriat C&RD block and with the recent shifting of the C&RD Block to Wapung, the villages of the Narpuh area now fall under Wapung C&RD Block. The region for many years has been mostly neglected in terms of development; this may be attributed to the fact that administration and government schemes/initiatives are far from the villages of the area,” expressed Suchiang
“People in this area depend on agriculture and horticulture for their livelihood. The public are stressing upon providing the best education to their children, still the literacy rate is below state’s average and there is lack of overall development citing the reasons due to lack of basic necessities”, added Suchiang.
“It is also found that even for MGNERGA schemes, PMAY schemes, the people of the area including the self-help group (SHG) cannot complete the jobs as they have to travel far to the concerned office for the office work,” further informed the Narpuh KSU unit chief.
Suchiang said the union demands the C&RD Block at Lumshnong village for the overall development and welfare of Narpuh area and its people.
