Lajja Ram Bishnoi inspects Jaiaw area where two youths from Kerala were assaulted

Shillong, July 1: The newly joined Director General of Police (DGP), Lajja Ram Bishnoi on Thursday evening made a suprised visit to Jaiaw to supervise the existing security arrangements in the area. Bishnoi was accompanied by Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem and other senior police officials.

Two Kerala youths has been assaulted in the area last week, and a similar incident was reported this week were on June 30, four labourers from Assam were returning in a local taxi, when they were stopped by unknown miscreants on a bridge at Umpohliew. The said labourers and the taxi driver were physically assaulted and received grievous injuries in the attack.

In his inspection at Jaïaw, Bishnoi said most of the people in the area are satisfied with the existing security arrangements made by the Meghalaya Police. “On interaction with the people, I found that they are satisfied with the existing security arrangements and we (Meghalaya Police) will continue to dominate the area so miscreants could not create any problem”, said DGP Bishnoi.

The DGP also informed that in the coming week, the police department will arrange a meeting with all the headmen to find solutions for the problem faced by the people in the areas.

“Youth should concentrate in studies, they should not indulged in any illegal activities…if they have any problems they should feel free to approach the Police and Civil adminstration”, said Bishnoi.

On the high rise of drug abuse in the area, Bishnoi said youths should stay away from indulging in drugs usage and drugs trafficking as it will sent a wrong signal outside the State.

“Most of the prominent citizens they don’t like these things.. unfortunately headmen are always protesting against these Illegal activities..”, added DGP.

On asked, DGP Bishnoi said such surprised visits will continue and the police department will continue to excess the security arrangements. “If we can visit the area it gives the better perception of the areas, the understanding will increase about the areas and it will easy for the Police to interact with the people in understanding their problems”, he added
