Must read

Guwahati, June 5: A social media reel showing a woman driving with a toddler seated on her lap behind the wheel has resulted in police action in Guwahati, with authorities warning that children must never be used as props for online content.

According to the Guwahati Police Commissionerate, a team from Khanapara Traffic Outpost traced Sabita Das of Lakhimpur after the video surfaced online. The footage allegedly showed her driving a Tata Nexon with a young child seated on her lap while the vehicle was in motion.

During questioning, Das told police that the video was recorded near Beltola on June 2 at around 4:07 am and that the child seen in the video was her sister’s daughter.

Police said she was counselled about the dangers of such behaviour and warned against repeating it. Legal action has also been initiated under Section 184(f) of the Motor Vehicles Act. Her driving licence has been seized and is currently under process for suspension.
In a strongly worded message, Assam Police said, “Children are not props for social media content. No reel, like or moment of online attention is worth endangering a child.”

The incident has sparked fresh conversations around responsible social media behaviour and road safety, particularly when children are involved.
