Kohima, July 23: Road connectivity to landslide-hit Shamator district is expected to be restored soon, with the Nagaland government intensifying clearance operations to reopen the blocked route, Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports S. Keoshu Yimkhiung has said.
Speaking exclusively to Hubnetwork.in, Yimkhiung said restoration work is progressing on a war footing, with workers continuing road clearance operations even on Thursday. He said the state government has deployed adequate heavy machinery to accelerate the restoration process and ensure that the road is reopened to traffic at the earliest.
“The work is progressing well, and we are hopeful that the road will be made accessible for commuters very soon,” he said.
The Advisor also called on local communities to play a more proactive role in keeping roads open during the monsoon, urging village authorities and residents to clear minor landslides and debris instead of depending entirely on government agencies.
He said community participation would help restore connectivity faster, particularly during periods of incessant rainfall when fresh landslides frequently disrupt road links.
Shamator is among the districts affected by heavy monsoon rains that have triggered landslides and disrupted road connectivity in several parts of Nagaland over the past week.
Yimkhiung reiterated that the government remains committed to restoring normalcy as quickly as possible.
