Aizawl, Dec 8: Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) leader Lalduhoma took oath as the new chief minister of Mizoram on Friday.
Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati administered the oath of office and secrecy to Lalduhoma and other ministers at the Raj Bhavan complex in Aizawl.
Mizo National Front leader and outgoing chief minister Zoramthanga was also present at the oath taking ceremony. All MNF MLAs, including its legislature party leader Lalchhandama Ralte also attended the event.
Former chief minister Lal Thanhawla was also present.

Who is Lalduhoma?
Lalduhoma was a 1972 IPS officer who started his IPS career in Goa. He was one of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s security advisers.
He played a key role in starting the negotiations for the Mizo peace accord of the 1980s.
Lalduhoma became MP from Mizoram on a Congress ticket in 1984. In 1986, he resigned as state president of Congress over differences with former Mizoram chief minister and Congress stalwart Lal Thanhwla.
He played a key role in the formation of the Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP). In 2018, Lalduhoma’s ZNP and six other smaller political parties came together to form the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM).
In 2020, Lalduhoma became the first MLA in the Mizoram assembly to be disqualified under the anti-defection law.
Following Monday’s assembly polls, the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) secured a decisive victory, unseating the reigning Mizo National Front (MNF) with a substantial lead and securing 27 seats.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress lagged significantly behind, securing two and one seat, respectively.
