Guwahati, June 2: A devastating landslide triggered by intense rainfall struck an Indian Army military camp at Chaten in North Sikkim’s Lachen district around 7:00 PM on June 1. The disaster has claimed the lives of three personnel, while six others remain missing.
The Indian Army launched immediate search and rescue operations despite treacherous terrain and relentless rain. Four individuals were rescued with minor injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Havaldar Lakhwinder Singh, Lance Naik Munish Thakur, and porter Abhishek Lakhada. Their mortal remains have been recovered, and the Army has extended its deepest condolences to their families, pledging full support during this time of loss.
Rescue efforts continue round-the-clock, with teams battling extreme weather in the hope of locating the missing personnel.

In a statement, the Indian Army reiterated its unwavering commitment to the safety of its troops, saluting the courage and sacrifice of its fallen comrades.
