Dibrugarh, May 20: The rampant cattle theft racket continues unabated in Dibrugarh, with shocking new CCTV footage revealing how thieves are now using luxury vehicles to steal cows under the cover of night.
A CCTV camera installed at a commercial establishment has captured the entire sequence of a recent theft — just around 500 meters from the Barbaruah Police Station, in front of Rameshwar Lal Higher Secondary School along National Highway 37. The footage shows two individuals forcefully dragging two cows and loading them into a high-end vehicle.

In a particularly heart-wrenching moment, a calf — born just days earlier — is seen helplessly trailing behind the vehicle, trying to keep up in search of its mother.
The incident underscores the growing brazenness of cattle theft syndicates operating across Dibrugarh. These gangs are reportedly targeting cows kept near roadsides and even those in cowsheds, exploiting the cover of night and using luxury vehicles to escape quickly and avoid suspicion.
This disturbing development has raised serious concerns about the safety of livestock in the region. Locals are calling for immediate police intervention and stricter night patrolling to tackle what they allege is a thriving black market linked to cattle smuggling.
