Manipur election officials meet political parties on Special Intensive Revision(SIR) of electoral rolls

Imphal, July 30: Election officials in Manipur have held a series of meetings with political parties across six districts in July to discuss the proposed Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The meetings, convened by the district election officers (DEOs), took place in Noney, Ukhrul, Kamjong, Kangpokpi, and Thoubal districts, as well as in Hiyanglam and Sugnoo assembly segments of Kakching district.

Political parties were invited to share suggestions on acceptable documents for voter declaration and to raise election-related concerns. DEOs assured party representatives that their recommendations would be duly considered.

In addition, Joint Chief Electoral Officer Ramananda Nongmeikapam chaired a meeting with representatives of recognised national and state political parties in Imphal on July 25.

“The participating parties were sensitised about the Election Commission’s proposal to conduct SIR across the country, aimed at safeguarding the integrity and accuracy of the electoral rolls, a vital component of the democratic process,” an official said.

Meanwhile, training sessions for booth-level officers (BLOs) and BLO supervisors on the SIR process are currently underway in the state.
