According to police, he suffered two bullet wounds, and his body was recovered at a bunker on the Chingphei hilltop at around 1:00 PM on Wednesday.

The recovery of Haokip’s body took place when there were exchanges of fire between the volunteers of the majority and minority warring groups at Phubala Canal in the inter-districts of Churachandpur and Bishnupur on Wednesday afternoon.

Churachandpur Superintendent of Police Kartik Maladi said, “Our sub-inspector Ongmang Haokip was a 2009 batch Manipur police. He was posted at duty in Chingphei. For the last four express he has been doing his duty. He was a courageous officer who laid down his life during his duty. We are sadden with the loss of such great officer. He was killed by bullet injury on his forehead. I expresses my condolences with the bereaved family. The department will always stand for the family and look after their needs”.
