Shillong, Nov 11: The Member of District Council (MDC) from Mawhati Constituency Charles Marngar on Thursday urged the Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to intervene on the matter related to the inauguration of a stadium in the disputed area of Umpaler under Block II.
Speaking to the press, the MDC said that as per the discussion between the DC of Ribhoi district and DC of Hamren West Karbi Anglong held on 26th August 2021, the DC of Hamren had mentioned clearly that both Meghalaya and Assam should not take any development works and keep and should maintain a status quo.
However, the MDC received information that the Government of Assam on Thursday inaugurated the stadium at Umlaper Village under Block-II, one of the 12 disputed land between Assam and Meghalaya.
Urging the Government officials to intervene on the said matter, Marngar said, ” The Government of Assam is trying to get hold of all our land and property… therefore, it’s high time for our CM and Dy CM to talk to the Assam CM personally… This is a serious issue therefore our CM should take serious action and immediate steps.”
