KOHIMA, June 25: A joint delegation of Naga legislators from Nagaland and Manipur on Thursday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and described the discussions as “positive and fruitful”.
The delegation included Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Losii Dikho, Nagaland Deputy Chief Ministers T.R. Zeliang and Y. Patton, along with other Naga leaders from both states.
While no official statement was issued on the details of the meeting, sources said the discussions centred on the long-pending Naga political issue and concerns relating to Naga-inhabited areas spread across state boundaries.
The presence of legislators from both Nagaland and Manipur is being viewed as an attempt to build broader political consensus on the way forward in the peace process and to ensure that the concerns of Nagas across the region are represented in the ongoing dialogue.

The meeting comes amid renewed focus on the Naga peace talks, with two key agreements continuing to shape the negotiations—the historic Framework Agreement signed between the Government of India and the National Socialist Council of Nagalim-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) in August 2015, and the Agreed Position signed with the Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (WC-NNPG).
Although both accords were hailed as major milestones, a final settlement remains elusive, prompting repeated calls from Naga civil society organisations and youth groups for a time-bound resolution of the decades-old political issue.
The Centre has consistently maintained that all contentious issues in the Northeast would be resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding.
The latest meeting with the Home Minister is being seen as a fresh effort to inject momentum into the peace process and forge greater consensus among Naga stakeholders.
