Shillong, Sept 12: The Meghalaya government has proposed a supplementary demand of Rs 333 crores to fund various urban development projects, including the construction of a new secretariat, additional secretariat complex and working women hostels.

Of this, Rs 200 crore was sought through supplementary demand for the current financial year in regards to the New Secretariat at New Shillong Township, the project cost of which is at Rs 1231.03 crores. The new secretariat will consolidate government offices, improving coordination and efficiency, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar said in his reply to a cut motion moved by Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma and TMC legislator from Ampati in the Assembly on Friday.

He also informed that Rs 45 crores sought through supplementary demand for construction of the Additional Secretariat Complex at Tura, the project cost of which is at Rs 165.80 crores. The complex will house elected representatives, bureaucrats, and office staff, improving governance and administration.

The deputy chief minister also informed that the government has also proposed construction of 400-seater hostels in Shillong and 200-seater hostels in Jowai and Tura (at Rs 144.80 crore) to enhance female labor force participation and provide safe accommodation and for this, Rs 88 crores sought through supplementary demand for the current financial year.
