Imphal, July 21: Altogether, 46 active cadres of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) [KCP-PWG] surrendered before Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh during a “home coming ceremony” held at the Mantripukhri Garrison of HQ Assam Rifles (South) in Imphal East district on Tuesday.

The surrender was facilitated by the Assam Rifles, Manipur Police and other security agencies after weeks of coordinated outreach supported by the State Government.

The ceremony was attended by senior government and security officials, including ministers, MLAs, the Chief Secretary, Security Advisor to the Government of Manipur, General Officer Commanding Spear Corps, Director General of Police, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South), Home Commissioner, DIG CRPF and other dignitaries.

“The surrendered cadres laid down 28 sophisticated weapons, including AK rifles, .303 rifles, pistols, double-barrel and single-barrel rifles, INSAS rifles, self-loading rifles, carbine machine guns and a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, along with a large quantity of magazines, ammunition and explosives,” said an official.

The Defence Ministry described the mass surrender as a landmark development, noting that many of the cadres had previously been part of peace agreements.

“The surrender of 46 active members is unprecedented for the KCP-PWG faction and represents a significant operational setback for the outfit, weakening its anti-social networks and territorial influence,” said an official.
