Meghalaya Govt pushes for completion of border fencing: CM

Must read

SHILLONG, JAN 15: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday assured that the government is working aggressively to complete the fencing along the international border with Bangladesh.

Speaking to media persons, Sangma said the government of India is also following up on the matter.

“We are moving very aggressively on that and I hope that things should be completed soon,” Sangma added.

Sangma noted that about 40 km of the 440-km border fencing is pending, with issues such as population concerns, land acquisition, and court cases hindering progress.

“We are taking necessary steps… I expect that very soon, because as I said, some of them are even having court cases, specially the West Jaintia Hills section, which is the largest, which is left unfenced,” he said.

Emphasizing the state’s vigilance on the international border with Bangladesh, the CM said, “The government of Meghalaya, the BSF and all the agencies are very alert.”

He highlighted a review meeting held on December 24, 2025, with various agencies, including BSF and IB, to discuss border security.
