Shillong, Jun 24: NPP legislator from Mahendraganj Sanjay A Sangma formally handed over the Tourist Facilitation Centre at Katta Beel to the Katta Beel Fishery Cooperative Society on Wednesday, entrusting the facility’s operation and maintenance to the local community.
The handover was conducted during a ceremony at Katta Beel in South West Garo Hills, where the MLA presented the keys and certificate of the centre to the Cooperative Society.

The facility was developed under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, as part of efforts to build integrated tourism infrastructure and enhance visitor experiences.
The event was attended by Kum. Anendya Raajshree, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Tourism Promotion Society, South West Garo Hills, Torali K. Marak, MCS, Block Development Officer of Zikzak C&RD Block, Collin Jeffrey Ch. Marak, Tourist Officer, South West Garo Hills, along with members of the Katta Beel Fishery Cooperative Society, local leaders and residents.

Speaking on the occasion, Sanjay A Sangma emphasized the importance of preserving and effectively utilizing tourism assets for sustainable development.
He urged the cooperative society and local stakeholders to work collectively to ensure that the facility is maintained properly and contributes to the growth of tourism in the region.
The Chairman of the Katta Beel Fishery Cooperative Society delivered the welcome address, while the Deputy Commissioner spoke on the significance of the project and the role of local communities in ensuring the long-term success of tourism infrastructure created under government schemes.
