Shillong, Jul 14: Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla on Tuesday said the state government will send a delegation to Delhi next month to push for Institute of National Importance (INI) status for North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS).
Shylla said he raised the issue with the Union Health Minister during his recent visit to Shillong for a Parliamentary Committee meeting on health.

“The Union Minister assured that they will follow up on this from their side. They have also asked us to submit the required documentation,” Shylla told reporters.
He added that he has also spoken to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on the matter.
“We are preparing the documents. The CM has assured that we will continue to pursue this,” he said.
The minister said the delegation will go to Delhi “very soon in the coming month” to take up the demand for INI status for NEIGRIHMS with the Centre.
