Guwahati, July 14: Veteran Assamese actress Purabi Sharma, known for her memorable performances in Assamese cinema and television, passed away on Tuesday following a cardiac ailment. She was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Guwahati.
Sharma is survived by her husband, noted Assamese actor and filmmaker Tapan Das, a prominent figure in the state’s film and mobile theatre industry. Her passing has left the Assamese film fraternity and admirers mourning the loss of a respected and familiar screen presence.

Over the years, Purabi Sharma appeared in several acclaimed Assamese films, including Barood (2004), Ringa Ringa Mon (2005) and Lakhimi (2009), earning appreciation for her natural performances and graceful screen presence.
Tributes poured in soon after news of her demise broke, with members of the Assamese film fraternity and fans remembering her as a warm, talented artiste whose contribution to regional cinema will be cherished for years to come.
