The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma, announced that the newly formed Eastern West District will soon get its own full-fledged Deputy Commissioner (DC) office located at Mairang. This indicates that the state government is working to provide administrative infrastructure to the newly formed districts in the state.

The announcement was made during a program commemorating the 188th death anniversary of U Tirot Sing Syiem.

The program was organised by the Syiem and the Durbar of Hima Nongkhlaw.
