Guwahati, May 16: Police from Maharashtra’s Nagpur Rural district have apprehended a minor accused after a 12-day interstate search operation across Assam and Nagaland in connection with a child sexual abuse case involving online harassment, officials said on Friday.
The case was registered on January 23 after a minor girl approached Jalalkheda Police Station alleging that an unidentified person had been sending her obscene messages and threats through WhatsApp using multiple mobile numbers.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

Officials said investigators, along with the Cyber Police Station of Nagpur Rural, carried out technical analysis of WhatsApp chats, call records and digital footprints to trace the accused.
The investigation later led police to locations in Assam and Nagaland, prompting an interstate operation under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Harssh A. Poddar, Additional SP Anil Mhaske and SDPO Parag Pote.
A police team was subsequently sent to Assam’s Udalguri district, where the accused was traced and apprehended with assistance from local police after searches in difficult hilly terrain, officials said.
During the probe, police found that the accused was also a minor.
The accused is being brought to Nagpur and will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, officials added.
