Kohima, June 23: In a bid to strengthen public awareness and community participation in the fight against drug abuse, Nagaland Police will host a special Facebook Live programme on June 26 to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The interactive session, scheduled from 11 am to 12:30 pm on the official Nagaland Police Facebook page, aims to engage students, parents, educators, NGOs and the wider public in a conversation on one of the state’s most pressing social challenges.

Police officials said the initiative seeks to reach audiences beyond traditional awareness campaigns by allowing citizens to directly interact with senior police officers and resource persons through a live digital platform.

The programme comes at a time when concerns over drug trafficking and substance abuse continue to grow across the Northeast. Nagaland’s geographical location along key narcotics routes and its proximity to the notorious Golden Triangle have made the state particularly vulnerable to the twin challenges of drug trafficking and addiction.

During the session, experts will discuss the health, social and legal consequences of drug abuse, explain provisions under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and highlight available avenues for treatment, rehabilitation and recovery.

Nagaland Police has encouraged schools, colleges, universities and civil society organisations to participate in the programme, with institutions urged to facilitate group viewing sessions for students.

Officials said the campaign will also focus on the critical role of parents, communities and youth leaders in preventing substance abuse and creating a drug-free society.

As drug-related challenges continue to impact families and communities across the region, the police hope the initiative will spark greater awareness, dialogue and collective action against the menace.
