Dimapur, Feb 27: Amidst heavy security, voting for the elections to the 60-member Nagaland Legislative Assembly began on Monday from 7 am.
The voters came in large numbers to vote for their preferred candidates and the state had polled an impressive 39.08 percent till 11 am.
The voting will continue till 4 p.m. without any break in 16 districts of Nagaland.
According to officials, 2,315 polling stations have been setup in the 59 assembly constituencies for free fair elections. Around 13 lakh voters, including 6,55,144 women would decide the electoral fate of 183 candidates.
The ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) is contesting the election on 40 seats while its partner the BJP has fielded candidates on 20 seats.
The Election Commission has set up 387 all-women polling booths as well as 38 model, 7 all youth and 3 all Divyangs polling booths across the districts.
Adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure peaceful polling.
As part of the precautionary measures, prohibitory order has already been imposed across the districts and it will remain in force till Monday evening.
