Guwahati, July 21: Nagaland University has been selected to host one of four incubation centres being established across the region under a Central Government initiative. As part of this project, the 50 highest-performing entrepreneurs will receive a startup seed grant of up to ₹5 lakh each.
The initiative, titled ‘Establish, Develop, and Manage Entrepreneurship Development Centres and Incubation Centres in Educational Institutes of the North Eastern Region’, is sponsored by the North Eastern Council (NEC), Shillong, and implemented by the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati, under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India.
The Kohima campus of Nagaland University, the only Central University in the state, has been designated as the host Incubation Centre. In its first batch, the centre will support 44 selected entrepreneurs, including 16 from Arunachal Pradesh, 6 from Assam, 4 from Manipur, and 18 from Nagaland. These incubatees will officially be onboarded in July 2025.

Dr. Dhrubajyoti Bordoloi, Coordinator of the Entrepreneurship Development and Incubation Centre at the university, outlined the activities planned under the initiative.
“We will host mentorship programmes involving industry experts and successful entrepreneurs, along with a range of hands-on activities such as workshops, ideathons, bootcamps, and hackathons over the next six months,” he said.
“This is a first-of-its-kind initiative in the Northeast, identifying potential entrepreneurs from some of the country’s remotest corners. Awareness campaigns in institutions and rural areas have been instrumental in nurturing an entrepreneurial mindset among the youth,” Bordoloi said.
Out of 145 beneficiaries selected across the region, 44 will be incubated at Nagaland University, reinforcing its emerging role as a hub of innovation and entrepreneurial leadership in the Northeast.
