Guwahati, July 21: Assam Police on Saturday arrested a 25-year-old construction worker for allegedly sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl in the Noonmati area.

The accused, Injamam alias Gullu, who was reportedly working at a multi-storey building construction site in the Pathar Quarry area of Guwahati, had been on the run for four days.

According to reports, Gullu allegedly assaulted the girl on Wednesday afternoon while she was playing near the construction site.

The child is currently receiving medical care and support.

Following a complaint filed by the victim’s family, Noonmati Police registered a case and launched an investigation.

Acting on specific inputs, the police arrested the accused from Dhubri.

“A family member filed an FIR. We launched an investigation and arrested the accused from Dhubri,” said a police official.
