Over 1,000 candidates appear as authorities deploy multi-layered safeguards following nationwide paper leak controversy

Tura, June 22: Under the watch of security personnel and strict surveillance measures, the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination commenced in Tura on Sunday, with more than 1,000 candidates appearing for the crucial medical entrance test.

Hub News tracked developments from early morning as elaborate security arrangements were put in place to ensure the smooth and transparent conduct of the examination.

In a high-security operation, sealed question paper packets were transported from the Punjab National Bank strong room at Nakam Bazar to the two designated examination centres under escort by the Border Security Force (BSF), district administration officials and examination authorities.

Officials closely supervised the movement of the question papers to ensure their safe delivery and prevent any possibility of tampering.

The re-examination began at 1 pm amid heightened security, with authorities enforcing stringent protocols both inside and outside the examination centres.

Security personnel were deployed across the venues, while CCTV cameras remained operational throughout the examination to monitor proceedings in real time. Officials said every precaution had been taken to ensure a fair, transparent and malpractice-free examination.

The re-test follows the cancellation of the earlier NEET-UG examination after allegations of a nationwide paper leak racket triggered one of the biggest controversies in the history of the examination.

The case is currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has made multiple arrests across several states as part of its probe.

In response to the controversy, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced additional safeguards and strengthened security protocols across examination centres to restore confidence in the examination process.

For hundreds of aspiring medical students across the Garo Hills region, Sunday marked another chance to compete for a seat in India’s medical colleges- this time under unprecedented security and scrutiny.
