Shillong, Feb 5: The Meghalaya High Court has directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to file an affidavit confirming completion of the Jowai-Ratacherra road construction by February 24.
The order was passed by the division bench headed by Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice W Diengdoh on Wednesday after examining status report submitted by the NHAI in regards to a PIL filed by (deceased) Kynjaimon Amse.
The NHAI has stated in its report, “The main carriageway of the subject stretch, i.e., from Jowai to Ratacherra section stands completed. However, in order to address the recurring issue of landslides at certain vulnerable locations, a separate and independent contract has been awarded for slope protection and allied works at seven vulnerable locations along the Jowai-Ratacherra section…”
NHAI’s counsel assured the court that the remaining patches, including culvert work at Km 105, will be completed within two weeks.
The bench accordingly directed NHAI to file an affidavit confirming completion of the road construction by February 24.
