SHILLONG, FEB 27: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has informed the Assembly on Friday that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is preparing estimates for foot over-bridges and flood mitigation measures on NH-6, but awaits approval from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
He was responding to a supplementary query raised by NPP legislator Dr Celestine Lyngdoh, who sought to know if government would provide the foot over-bridges in Byrnihat, Nongpoh and Umsning if the ministry do not sanctions the necessary funds.
Tynsong said the Jorabat–Lad Umroi stretch is NHAI’s responsibility and a series of meetings have been held.
“The latest information I got is that estimate has been submitted and NHAI is waiting for necessary approval from MoRTH,” he said.
On a junction near Umsning bypass, he said, “If the fund is not supported by MoRTH we will examine and ensure this challenge is resolved.”
To a query from VPP legislator Brightstarwell Marbaniang on an alternative road from Mawiong to Jingkieng-Umsohlang, Tynsong said the submission would be examined.
“Right now we are concerned about congestion in Shillong… wherever land is available to make sure diversification of traffic as much as possible will be done,” he said.
