NIA arrests PREPAK militant linked to 2024 Manipur murder, arson & looting case

Shillong, May 20: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested one more militant in connection with the 2024 Manipur case relating to the heinous murder of a woman and burning and looting of houses in a village in Jiribam district of the state.

The arrested individual, Rajkumar Maipaksana, a native of Jiribam, was taken into custody from Kannur district of Kerala. The NIA Special Court in Kochi has granted transit remand for his production before the NIA Court in Imphal.

According to officials, Rajkumar is a member of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), a proscribed insurgent group. He is alleged to be one of the key perpetrators behind the November 2024 attack in Zairawn village, where a woman identified as Zosangkim was murdered, and several homes were torched and looted.

The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into case RC-13/2024/NIA/IMP, in which two other accused militants, belonging to different outfits, were arrested last week.

The NIA stated that its investigation is ongoing and efforts are on to track down other perpetrators involved in the heinous crime.
