Shillong, April 25: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Vincent H. Pala on Monday said he is not in favour of having any pre-poll alliance with like-minded political parties citing that it will only weaken the party in the state.
“When it comes to pre-poll or post-poll alliance, we as a state party have to discuss with the central leadership – AICC. However personally, I am not in favour of tying up with any party in the state. We also had a meeting with the vice president and others and they said we should not go for alliance with any party as it will weaken the party,” Pala told reporters.
“Because, if we go for alliance, our party workers will be working for them not for us so in the long run it will weaken our party,” he said adding “If you see in UP, we keep on alliance with any party ultimately we have become very weak.”
He said the question of pre-poll alliance will not arise since the Congress is gearing its preparation in almost all the constituencies for the 2023 elections.
Pala denies Congress being party of Govt
On Mukul Sangma’s statement that Congress is very much part and parcel of the NPP-led MDA government, Pala said, “Mukul might have said that because when Ampareen and other 4 MLAs were in the Congress and before we dropped her as a CLP leader, they have all went there in the name of the Congress but we have already suspended them.”
“So the question of tying up with the present government does not arise as far as Congress is concerned in Meghalaya,” he maintained.
AICC to decide fate of suspended MLAs
Meanwhile, Pala informed that the final decision on the fate of the five suspended MLAs will be taken by the AICC disciplinary action committee.
He informed that the committee had already sat once and soon it will sit again to decide not only for Meghalaya but for other states as well.
Pala said, “After they (five MLAs) did not answer (to the notice served to them), we sent a recommendation to Delhi to take action. They (committee) have sat once then they told me they could not complete it in one day and Meghalaya’s turn will be taken up the next day. I think within a week or two they will take a decision as they just called me the day before yesterday that they are going to sit very soon on this issue.”
The party will decide whether to suspend or expel the five MLAs, he added.
