NPP all set to stake claim to form EC in GHADC

Tura, April 15: The Congress won 12 seats in the GHADC election, out of 29 seats and become the single largest party, while NPP secured 11 seats.

The BJP won 2 seats, while GNC won 1 seat and three independents won at Zizak, Wagesik and Rochonpara respectively.

The lone GNC candidate, including three independent, are likely to partner with NPP to stake claim to form the NPP-led Executive Committee in GHADC. However, there is no confirmation as yet.

BJP’s Bernard Marak won the prestigious Tura seat defeating NPP’s Semford B. Sangma, while independent candidate Arbinstone Marak of Rochonpara defeated the outgoing CEM of GHADC Dipul R. Marak.

NCP chief Saleng A. Sangma, who contested the election from Babelapara constituency lost to NPP’s debutant candidate Rakesh A. Sangma.

In the plain belt area, Congress won both the seats – Habibur Rahman won the Shyamnagar seat, while Aggasi R. Marak, son of former minister and Congress leader late Clement Marak, won the Balachanda seat.

Two Muslim candidates managed to win in the GHADC polls – Independent Candidate Aktar Ali from Zikzak and Congress candidate Habibur Rahman from Shyamnagar.

Wife of Congress leader Zenith Sangma, Sadhiarani Sangma won the Dengnakpara seat. She is the lone women candidate, who won the election. This is her second stint as the MDC of GHADC.

Other bigwigs who lost the election are – NPP’s Dolly Marak from Damas and Denang T. Sangma from Williamnagar seat. Dolly was the outgoing Deputy CEM of GHADC, while Denang T. Sangma was the outgoing chairman of GHADC.
