NPP seeks urgent upgrade of Litan Police Station

Must read

Imphal, July 15: The National People’s Women Front (NPWF), the women’s wing of the National People’s Party (NPP) in Manipur, has demanded the immediate strengthening and upgradation of Litan Police Station in Ukhrul district, warning that inadequate infrastructure could undermine law enforcement in one of the state’s conflict-sensitive regions.

In a memorandum addressed to Manipur Home Minister Yumnam Khemchand, the NPWF said a recent field assessment conducted by an NPP team found that Litan Police Station is functioning under extremely challenging conditions amid recurring incidents of violence in and around the area.

The memorandum noted that the region has witnessed repeated inter-community clashes, destruction of property, armed confrontations and prolonged tension over the past several months.

It said Litan Police Station has played a crucial role in maintaining peace and order, besides responding to emergencies in the conflict-affected district.

Describing the police as the “first line of defence” for citizens irrespective of community or ethnicity, the NPWF said strengthening the police station with adequate infrastructure and manpower would restore public confidence and significantly contribute to sustaining peace.

The organisation urged the government to immediately construct a secure perimeter wall, enhance surveillance and defensive infrastructure, deploy additional experienced police personnel, upgrade communication systems and operational equipment, and improve accommodation and logistical facilities for security forces.

It expressed hope that a better-equipped Litan Police Station would enhance emergency response, strengthen law and order, and reinforce the government’s commitment to impartial and professional policing in the conflict-affected region.

The NPWF said timely intervention by the Home Department would go a long way in safeguarding lives, restoring public trust and ensuring lasting peace in Ukhrul district.
