SHILLONG, FEB 25: The National People’s Party (NPP) has condemned senior RSS functionary Sunil Deodhar over remarks at an Indigenous Faith Conference in Pynter village, East Khasi Hills, accusing him of divisive rhetoric and leveling baseless allegations against the government.
“(We) express deep concern over the recent divisive hate speech,” NPP spokesperson HM Shangpliang said in a statement on Wednesday, describing the comments as “factually incorrect” and “intended to incite hatred and division in the community.”
“It is an attempt to polarize and create tension,” Shangpliang said adding, “We urge everyone to reject such divisive rhetoric and promote unity and harmony.”
Highlighting Meghalaya’s tradition of tolerance, he added, “As a party we are committed to promoting social cohesion and inclusivity. We will continue to work towards promoting harmony and ensuring that everyone can live together without any fear or intimidation. The people of the state are known for their tolerance. We will not let such statements undermine the peace and social fabric of our society.”
The NPP called on leaders to act responsibly and said, “Leaders have a responsibility to promote peace, tolerance, understanding and unity.”
It demanded “an apology and accountability for the inciteful, offensive and baseless speech made by the leader.”
