KOHIMA, July 8: The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has called for a candlelight vigil in Kohima on July 9 to mourn six Naga men who were killed while demanding a thorough and time-bound investigation into the killings.
The vigil will be held at Phoolbari Junction from 6 pm onwards, with the federation appealing to citizens to join in solidarity and prayer to honour the victims and seek justice.
In a letter issued on Wednesday to all colony chairmen in Kohima, signed by NSF president Mteisuding and assistant general secretary Veze Tunyi, the federation said the killings had “deeply saddened” the Naga people and raised concerns over their “conscience, identity, beliefs and rights.”
Condemning the incident, the NSF urged law enforcement agencies to conduct a “thorough, transparent and expeditious investigation” and ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice.
“Such acts of brutality must be met with the full force of the law to preserve public confidence in our system and safeguard innocent lives,” the federation said.
The NSF said the vigil was intended not only to pay tribute to the victims but also to send a strong message that justice and accountability must prevail.
Referring to the Nagas’ tradition of peaceful coexistence, the federation said Naga society has historically welcomed people of different communities, faiths and traditions without discrimination, and warned that such acts of violence threaten that spirit of harmony.
The federation appealed to colony chairmen to mobilise residents and participate in the programme, saying their support would reinforce the collective voice of the Naga people in seeking justice.
It also called on citizens across the state to participate peacefully in the vigil and continue praying for peace, wisdom and justice.
