Itanagar, July 20: More than 15 people have lost their lives, and several hundreds have been displaced due to continuous rain-triggered landslides in Arunachal Pradesh over the past few days.
Surface communication in the Lower Siang district has been severely affected, with landslides reported in Siji, Yate, and near Garu village.
The Aalo-Likabali road—considered a lifeline for districts such as West Siang, Leparada, Shi-Yomi, and Upper Subansiri—remains blocked.
According to reports, torrential rains have claimed at least 15 lives and displaced scores of families, impacting over 36,000 people across 26 districts. East Kameng and Upper Subansiri are among the worst-hit areas, and the state is currently on high alert.
Officials have urged residents to avoid night travel due to the heightened risk of fresh landslides.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased and announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh each as per government norms.
