Over a dozen labourers feared trapped after stone quarry collapses in Mizoram

Aizawl, Nov 14: A stone quarry of ABCI Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd at Maudarh, Hnahthial district of Mizoram, collapsed on Monday afternoon, with 15 people feared trapped under the quarry.

According to sources, the workers at the stone quarry had just returned from their lunch break when the whole stone quarry caved in.

Sources have reported that 15 workers along with five Hitachi excavators, and other drilling machines have been buried under the quarry.

Volunteers from Leite village and Hnahthial town immediately reached the spot for a rescue operation, which was underway till the filing of this report.

Meanwhile, government has sent more rescue teams to the site.

Officials have stated that the workers are from Bihar. The quarry has been operational for 2.5 years. Initially, 13 people were said to have been trapped in the quarry but one person standing at the corner of the stone quarry survived. SDRF, BSF and Assam Rifles have been called to assist in the search and rescue operation for the remaining persons.
