Agartala, Sept 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the redeveloped Mata Tripura Sundari temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas revered by Hindus, in southern Tripura’s Udaipur.
The 524-year-old shrine has been redeveloped under the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) scheme of the Union Tourism Ministry at a cost of over ₹54 crore. Of this, the Centre contributed ₹34.43 crore while the Tripura government provided ₹17.61 crore.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister virtually laid the foundation stone of 13 development projects worth over ₹5,127 crore in Arunachal Pradesh’s capital, Itanagar, before arriving in Agartala. From there, he flew to Udaipur in Gomati district, around 65 km away, to inaugurate the redeveloped temple.
PM Modi also took part in a 12-km roadshow from the Palatana helipad to the temple, where thousands of people gathered along the route to greet him.
After inaugurating the redeveloped temple and its beautified surroundings, he offered puja at the Kali temple and visited an exhibition highlighting the temple’s history, traditions, and its connection with the royal dynasty.
This marked Modi’s 11th visit to Tripura and his second to the Mata Tripura Sundari temple since becoming Prime Minister in 2014. He previously visited the shrine on April 7, 2019, while his last visit to the state was on April 17, 2024, during the Lok Sabha election campaign.
