Shillong, Dec 28: Two individuals were arrested on December 26, 2023 for allegedly stealing 25 batteries from Airtel mobile towers in Lalmati village under Palingkata Police Station, Ri Bhoi District.
The arrested individuals were identified as Pewarson Marak from Lalmati and Bipul Marak from Umdem.
Following the arrests, the police conducted a search at a house in Bynrihat, Amtola, Assam. However, no batteries were recovered as they were suspected to have been hidden elsewhere. The owner of the house is still absconding as of the time of filing this report.
However, the police seized a pickup truck bearing registration number AS 01 NC 9804 used to transport the stolen batteries, and the search for the remaining 24 missing batteries belonging to the Airtel company is still ongoing.
