Guwahati, Dec 12: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to accelerating development in Manipur’s tribal regions while urging all communities to strengthen ongoing efforts toward peace and reconciliation in the state.
Addressing a public function in Senapati after laying foundation stones and inaugurating several developmental projects, the President said ensuring dignity, security and growth opportunities for Manipur’s tribal communities remains a “national priority.” She highlighted that the Union Government is working closely with local leaders, civil society organisations and community groups to ensure that development in the hill districts is both inclusive and sustainable.

Murmu noted that remote tribal regions across the country — including Manipur’s hill districts — have seen significant investments in road and bridge connectivity, national highways, rural infrastructure, healthcare, education, drinking water and electricity supply. Livelihood initiatives such as skill development programmes, self-help groups and Van Dhan projects, she said, are beginning to improve household incomes and quality of life.
Calling diversity Manipur’s greatest strength, the President underscored the cultural complementarity between the hills and the valley. She appealed to all communities to continue supporting peace-building efforts, stressing that the aspirations of every section of society are recognised by the Government of India.
Reiterating the Centre’s commitment to the “well-being and progress” of the state, Murmu said collective effort is essential for a peaceful and prosperous Manipur.
Earlier in Imphal, the President paid homage to the women warriors of Manipur at the Nupee Lal Memorial Complex, which honours the historic uprisings led by courageous Manipuri women who resisted colonial and feudal oppression.
